Cody was the kind of friend who sometimes drove you nuts and other times seemed like the only thing standing between you and insanity. He lived life full-tilt, as though living meant riding a wild river of experiences without hesitation or doubt. But over the past few years that river has steadily slowed, and today the water finally ran out.
With a lot of tears we said good-bye to our old friend as he slipped away into sleep for the last time. But the sorrow his death brings will not even come close to outweighing all the years of laughter his life provided.
He didn't leave a whole lot of "stuff" behind - collar and leash, brush and comb, water and food dishes, and some uneaten dog food and treats. But he also left behind some big, wet nose-prints on the hearts of the many folks who loved him. The family, of course, and Pam's voice students, and our house-church, to name a few.
God, may I live even half that well!

What a fine tribute to a friend. That bond between people and pets is such a mystery and you trace it with a fine touch.
I'm sorry, my friend. I do know what you feel.
I am not a poet, as you will see, but I did have one for my friend Cody. As with the people he owned, he was quite the Dog.
Good-Bye Old Friend
Good-Bye old friend
I will miss you
There is sorrow in the end
But great memories too
Memories of laughing with you
As you did your silly prance
Memories of you cruising the floor
For a snack if there was a chance
I'll remember your quiet way
I'll remember your greetings
I'll remember your presence
At all those house church meetings
So, good-bye old friend
It was great to know you
I don't believe it's the end
You were just passing through
That is my tribute to a fine canine friend. One of the best I have known.
God bless you Mike and Pam. I am really sorry that this day had to come.
Peace!
Tim
Thank you, friends.
I added a picture of Cody taken on his 15th birthday.
Perfectly said. I'm sure he's just as happy now because he gets to see/pester his old friend Spot.
Hey Mike and Pam, sorry for your loss good friend. I'll miss Cody looking for pets and love during worship time in his home. See you real soon.
Its interesting to think of how many people Cody had a wonderful, positive inpact on. I can think of quite a few and I've only know him a couple of years. He was always there to greet, and never failed to make me smile and lift my heart. Would that we all could leave such a trubute behind, of dozens of people who remember good things brought into their lives. I will miss him. My heart also grieves for the depth of your loss, Mike and Pam.

I just read this again, and it made me realize how much I miss Cody.
